Florence "Flo" Ngala
Florence "Flo" Ngala (b. 1995) is an editorial and documentary photographer from Harlem, New York. Ngala grew up a first-generation American and, before photography, spent 12 years as a figure skater with a non-profit program. It was here that she first learned about precision and practice. As a young artist, Ngala captured scenes of Harlem’s community from 2008-2013 while in high school and also taught herself self-portraiture.
She went on to major in Advertising /Public Relations, and while in college, she was cast as an extra for a music video. At 21, her “behind the scenes” images from that video led to being discovered by a music executive and a once-in-a-lifetime invite to be a freelance photographer for Gucci Mane & Cardi B.
Outside of music, Ngala's work has been seen by millions online and in print, including over 20 New York
Times articles, Times Square billboards, campaigns for Nike, Athleta, Reebok, and others. In 2023, she made the Forbes Under 30 list after an invitation to capture inside the MET Gala made her the first Black woman to do so. She was invited back again by Vogue in 2023.
Notable work of Ngala's includes the 2022 viral Essence Magazine cover of Method Man, behind the scenes of 8 Cardi B music videos, including the award-winning WAP record ft. Megan Thee Stallion and more. She has photographed cultural figures like Olympians Venus Williams and Simone Biles, politicians like Stacey Abrams, and recently worked with Vice President and Presidential nominee Kamala Harris on the campaign trail and at home in DC for Rolling Stone.
Ngala is an avid writer, public speaker, creative director, and problem solver in her role as an entrepreneur since graduating University in 2017.
